Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 4 wickets in IPL 2021 Qualifier 1 to reach the final. Robin Uthappa (63), Ruturaj Gaikwad (70), and MS Dhoni (18*) made the winning contribution in a run-chase of 173 runs.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar praised Chennai after they made it to the final for the 9th time; most by any team in the IPL history. He called the franchise 'special' for their performance and fan following around the world.

CSK had failed to defeat DC this season with two losses in the league stage match, but they got their revenge. Speaking on Star Sports' post-match show, Gavaskar said, "This is a very special franchise."

The three-time IPL champions had failed to make it to the top four last season for the first time ever. Gavaskar said CSK made a comeback with a bang and now they are one win away from their fourth IPL title.

"This has been a franchise which, before last year, has been in the playoffs every single time. So, yes, when they did not qualify for the playoffs, that has to be an aberration because look at the way they've come back. They've come back with a bang. It's just unbelievable," he said.

CSK are famous for backing their players who, in return, perform in crucial matches. It has worked well for the franchise and their player-friendly nature also helps an out-of-form player to find the touch back.

"The fans are so heavily invested in this franchise... To have that kind of fan following, just tells you what this franchise is all about," he said.

"I told you, if Mumbai Indians don't win, I'd like CSK to win. I've had my best cricketing moments at CSK. The administration there is so player-friendly. That is the reason why you see so much loyalty, even from the fans. The fans understand the game over there in Chennai, they really do understand the game," added Gavaskar.
