As Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set to play its final match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday (October 8), David Warner’s name is making rounds with many reckoning that he might get a possible farewell match.
Reacting to talks of Warner possibly getting a farewell match against MI on Friday, former Indian cricketer and commentator Gautam Gambhir said that he doesn't believe in the “system of farewells” and said Warner should only return if he is a part of SRH’s best XI.
Gambhir said on ESPNCricinfo, “See, a lot of great players didn't get farewells. We all know that even some legends didn't, although legend is a big word. I don't understand this system of farewells."

He added, "Ultimately, you are playing to win the match. If your best playing XI includes him, then absolutely give him a chance. If not, then absolutely don't give him a chance. As simple as it gets. SunRisers' job is to win matches and not give farewells.”
Noteworthy, Warner was SRH's captain for a long time and also led the franchise to their only IPL title in 2016. He has also a few orange caps to his name in the IPL, but the ongoing IPL 2021 has been completely forgettable for the Aussie southpaw.
He not only lost SRH captaincy in the middle of the first half of the tournament in India but also lost his place in the playing XI in the UAE leg.
There were talks that the IPL 14 will be the last season for Warner with SRH, as the next season is set to see a mega auction take place, and his chances to be retained or bought looks fairly slim.
