MS Dhoni recently became the first player to captain in 200 matches in the IPL | IPL-BCCIChennai Super Kings’ (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has hinted that he’ll continue to play for the franchise in IPL 2022 and hopefully end his career with a farewell match in Chennai. Dhoni, who is 40, retired from international cricket in 2020.

His announcement of retirement from international cricket came on August 15 when posted a video collage of photos and moments from his career for the Indian team on his Instagram account with the caption reading, “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.

Though there were murmurs that IPL 2020 would be his last tournament for the Yellow army, he quashed those rumors with a ‘not yet’ when asked by the presenter Danny Morrison during the toss in the last match of IPL 2020 for CSK. Though the rumors persisted especially after CSK failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in their IPL history.

His form in the IPL 2021 has not been very good with the bat, but he has led the team to the playoffs qualification.

Now he has hinted that his final match for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), might come at the home ground in Chepauk, Chennai. This was said by Dhoni himself during a virtual conversation with a fan during the 75th year celebrations of India Cements on Tuesday.

The fan asked Dhoni about his international retirement and how as his fans, they were robbed of a farewell match to see him in action for one last time.

We didn’t get that and what's your comment on that. You also chose a very particular date and time, any significance for that.”

Dhoni smiled at the question and replied, “It cannot be a better day than that, you know, 15th of august, and when it comes to the farewell, you can always come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game, so you'll still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. So hopefully, we'll come to see Chennai, and will play my last game over there and meet all the fans.”

MS Dhoni was the most expensive player bought in the inaugural IPL 2008 auction and has played all his life for just two franchises in the IPL- Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant. The CSK management has already indicated that Dhoni will oversee the transition of CSK as a player and that would mean that he would play the next season in India.
