The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had a poor run in IPL 2021 so far as the team is languishing at the bottom of the points table. Their recent game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also saw some disappointing performances from the Orange Army.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Kane Williamson and Co. were restricted to a paltry 115/8 in their quota of 20 overs on a slow Sharjah wicket.
Even though the SRH bowlers fought hard to make a good match out of it on this bowling conducive wicket, KKR managed to chase this target down with 2 balls to spare. Thus, skipper Kane Williamson talked about the team fell short by a few runs.
“I think if we got closer to the 150-mark, might have been par. We did have our chances to squeeze the scoring but it was always going to be tough with such a low score,” Williamson said during the post-match presentation.
The right-hand batter then talked about falling short of a competitive total by a few runs and also revealed the problem SRH has faced in this 2021 edition of IPL.
“We haven't been able to identify the right score all season. We need to go back to the drawing board and re-assess things. We could have built more partnerships. Unfortunately, we were 10-15 short of what would have been a competitive score,” the New Zealand cricketer said.
While T Natarajan’s replacement Umran Malik received a lot of praise for his sheer pace, even Williamson lauded the quick for his ability to bowl fast.
“He (Malik) has been bowling really quick in the nets and it's really nice for him to get an opportunity today. Obviously, we're out of the competition, so it's a chance for some other boys to also get on the park,” the SRH skipper concluded.
The Orange Army will now be locking horns with Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Wednesday (6 October) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
