IPL 2021: DC's Avesh Khan says he's always looking to take wickets, rather than restricting runs

DC registered a 4-wicket win over MI at Sharjah.

Avesh Khan | BCCI/IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) showcased an all-around performance against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 46 of the ongoing IPL 2021. Opting to bowl first, DC managed to restrict Rohit Sharma and Co. for a paltry 129/8 and ended up chasing the target with 5 balls to spare.

Even though DC batter Shreyas Iyer was lauded for his gritty 33, left-arm spinner Akshar Patel played a vital role by picking 3-21 in his 4 overs and was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

While talking to his teammate Avesh Khan in a video posted on iplt20.com, off-spinner Akshar Patel revealed his bowling strategy against the defending champions MI.

I think after the six overs, I came onto bowl. My planning was not to concede boundaries on such a slow wicket. It was not an easy wicket for the batters to slog. Our team has Avesh Khan, he told me that we have qualified for the playoffs. Our team environment is very good,” Patel told Avesh Khan.

DC’s right-arm quick Avesh Khan also had a great game at Sharjah on Saturday (2 October) as he returned 3-15 in his 4 overs which included big wickets of MI skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Thanks to Rishabh, he has given me the opportunity to play this season, whenever I bowl, I always look to take wickets rather than looking to contain runs. I was trying to take the wicket of Hardik Pandya, the ball reversed a bit and hence I was able to dismiss him,” Avesh Khan said.

After this 4-wicket win over MI, DC will next lock horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday (4 October) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
