The Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after suffering a 6-wicket loss against the current table toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has become the first team to get knocked out of the IPL 2021.
CSK completely dominated SRH with both bat and ball as after inviting the latter to bat first, MS Dhoni-led team restricted the Hyderabad-based franchise to just 134/7 and ended up chasing the total with 6 wickets in hand in the final over.
While talking to the host broadcasters after the match, the SRH skipper Kane Williamson rued not having enough runs on the board for their loss against CSK.
“Not quite enough runs. It wasn't an easy surface and although we didn't get enough we showed a fighting spirit in the last quarter with the ball. We need 10-15 extra runs with the bat though and we need to make those small changes,” Williamson said on Star Sports.
“After the powerplay we were 40-something and although you feel like you want more, it was a good start on that surface. You want to score a few more runs though, but we saw some nice contributions from the lower order. We need to improve. This team is at the top of the table,” he added.

The New Zealand captain then said if his team had made the right decisions with the bat while playing against the current table toppers it would have been a challenging game.
“If you make better decisions with the bat, the final score could have been a little more. CSK played really well. It looked challenging and variable. We are back to the drawing board,” the right-handed Williamson said.
The IPL 2021 has not been great for SRH as they find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table with only 4 points to their name in 11 matches played (2 wins, 9 losses), the 31-year-old Williamson talked about growth of the team.
“Although every match is about the W or the L against your name, you do look at the growth of the team. This season has been a bit disjointed given that it was played in two halves, but we'll look to grow and build some momentum,” the Kiwi signed off.
