Mumbai Indian (MI), the two-time defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) were dealt a blow as their young pacer Arjun Tendulkar has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the tournament due to an injury.
Arjun, son of MI mentor Sachin Tendulkar, was bought for his base price in the IPL 2021 auction by the Rohit Sharma-led franchise.
MI announced that Delhi’s right-arm pacer Simarjeet Singh has been named Arjun’s replacement and has started training with the team after completing the mandatory quarantine as per IPL guidelines.
Mumbai Indians did not reveal the details of Arjun Tendulkar's injury that forced them to name a replacement for the remainder of the season.
As for his replacement, Simarjeet recently traveled with Team India to Sri Lanka for a six-game white-ball tour. The Delhi seamer did not get a game but he got the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar, who have been regular names in India's white-ball setup.
Mumbai Indians are currently fifth on the points table, and will next face Delhi Capitals on October 2nd in Abu Dhabi.
