IPL 2021: WATCH- DC’s R Ashwin has a verbal duel with Tim Southee and KKR captain Eoin Morgan

Ashwin and Southee exchanged some heated words, with things boiling over when Morgan intervened.

Ashwin and Morgan engage in banter as Karthik calms things down | TwitterThe 40th match of the IPL 2021 saw Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clashing in a day match in Sharjah. DC, who are at the second spot on the points table, managed 127/9 after being asked to bat first by KKR captain Eoin Morgan, who won the toss.

DC made one change bringing in Steve Smith for Prithvi Shaw, while KKR included Sandeep Warrier and Tim Southee for Prasidh Krishna and Andre Russell respectively.

For DC, Steve Smith and Rishabh Pant both made 39, while Shikhar Dhawan made 24 runs. KKR’s Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer both picked two wickets, while Lockie Ferguson also took 2/10 in his 2 overs before going off with a reported injury.

Though the DC inning was relatively incident-less, apart from Rishabh Pant almost hitting keeper Dinesh Karthik on his head trying to swat at the ball; R Ashwin provided some drama after he was dismissed and was on his way back to the pavilion.

Ashwin was caught by Nitish Rana off Tim Southee on the first ball of the last over of DC innings. While walking back to the dugout, Ashwin and Southee, who was making his KKR debut, had some exchange of words that seemed heated.

KKR skipper Eoin Morgan then intervened and told Ashwin something to which the DC offie took offense and walked towards the Irishman while taking his helmet off and mouthing something. It was only stopped as Dinesh Karthik got in between and nudged Ashwin to continue on his way off the field.
