IPL 2021: Faf du Plessis says he's "still having neck issues" from concussion he suffered in PSL

Faf had picked up concussion the last time he played at Abu Dhabi in PSL.

Faf du Plessis had suffered a serious concussion during PSL in Abu Dhabi | TwitterThe current table-toppers of IPL 2021, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been on top of their game. With a superb 2-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Abu Dhabi on Sunday (26 September), CSK got to 16 points in 10 matches played (8 wins, 2 losses).

The opening batter Faf du Plessis has been a vital aspect of this CSK batting unit and the South African continued to play an important role while chasing KKR’s 172 as the right-handed du Plessis scored 43 (30) with 7 boundaries.

While talking to host broadcasters Star Sports ahead of the clash, Du Plessis recalled his concussion-related injury at the same venue in Abu Dhabi while playing for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture against Peshawar Zalmi.

IPL 2021: "Abandon the left-right combo at least for a couple of games,” Manjrekar suggests MI

I walked in here today and I realized the last time I was here was when I picked up my concussion. So, it's probably not the best start to the day so it can only get better from there hopefully,” du Plessis said.

The 37-year-old was involved in a nasty collision with his Quetta Gladiators teammate Mohammad Hasnain which ruled him out for a long time after scans. The right-hand batter then made it clear that despite the persisting neck problems, he wants to do well for CSK.

Took a long time - four months to get through that. Still having neck issues from that incident but nothing that's going to keep me off the park. MS asked me how am I to do those high pocket areas and I said I'm good to go,” the CSK opener Faf du Plessis concluded.

The MS Dhoni-led CSK has not lost any match since the resumption of IPL 2021 in UAE and will be looking to continue their winning run as they face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday (30 September) at Sharjah.
