IPL 2021: Virat Kohli praises hat-trick hero Harshal Patel after RCB's thumping win over MI

Harshal Patel became only the third RCB bowler to claim a hat-trick in the IPL.

Harshal Patel celebrates after taking a hat-trick against MI | BCCI/IPLVirat Kohli was a relieved captain as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday (September 26) thrashed Mumbai India (MI) by 54 runs in Dubai to register their first victory in the second phase of IPL 2021.

Invited to bat first, RCB posted 165/6 in 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Glenn Maxwell (56 off 37 balls) and skipper Kohli (51 off 42 balls). Wicketkeeper batter Srikar Bharat also played a handy knock of 24-ball 32 at No. 3.

Defending the total, RCB bundled out the defending champions for 111 in 18.1 overs. Harshal Patel (4/17), Yuzvendra Chahal (3/11), Glenn Maxwell (2/23) ran through MI’s batting line-up.

"Very happy, especially the way we won. It was a difficult start when we lost Devdutt. He came in the second over to try and get me out... KS came out and played some amazing shots. He took the pressure off me. Maxi's innings was unbelievable," Kohli said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

"Tonight I don't think there's no complaints whatsoever, I will give it a 10 especially on the field. Maybe in batting I will give it 8, we should've got 20-25 more - really put the opposition under pressure and not allow them to come back after a breakthrough," he added.

Harshal Patel’s four wickets also included a hat-trick in the 17th over of Mumbai’s innings. The right-arm pacer dismissed Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Rahul Chahar in successive deliveries.

He is the third RCB bowler after Praveen Kumar (vs Rajasthan Royals in 2010) and Samuel Badree (vs Mumbai Indians in 2017) to claim a hat-trick in the IPL.

"We left out 15 [runs] out there... Those are the things where we feel we can get 20-25 extra runs. I went with my gut feel with DC [Christian]... With his experience and change-ups, he bowled an amazing over... What Harshal did was unbelievable," Kohli said.
