Dhoni's ecstasy turned to agony as the 3rd umpire ruled the delivery a no-ball for height | ScreengrabMS Dhoni might be 40-years-old and his batting powers might be on the wane, but no one can doubt that even at this age, his reflexes behind the stumps with the keeping gloves have not diminished much.

His acrobatic skills and smart thinking were on display when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 38th match of the IPL 2021 in Abu Dhabi. Eoin Morgan of KKR won the toss and chose to bat first.

On the 5th ball of the 4th over of KKR innings, Sam Curran bounced Rahul Tripathi who tried to ramp the short ball over the head of MS Dhoni. However, the CSK captain leaped high in the air and palmed the ball high and caught it easily on its way down, and appealed for the catch.

While it was clear that there was an edge, however, the third umpire was asked by the on-field umpires to check the height of the ball and replays showed that the ball was easily over the head of the batsman and hence was called a no-ball.

This robbed MS Dhoni of a truly brilliant catch and CSK and Sam Curran off a wicket as well. Tripathi went on to make 45 in 33 balls with 4 fours and one six, which was hit off the free-hit delivery he got after that no-ball.
