Ever since Virat Kohli announced he will quit Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captaincy after IPL 2021, the discussion around his replacement for the role has started. After Sanjay Manjrekar, former South African pacer Dale Steyn has come up with a name for RCB's new captain after Kohli.

Dale, who played for RCB under Kohli's captaincy, said KL Rahul could be the next captain of RCB in the 15th edition of IPL. Rahul used to play for Bangalore before they released him and Punjab Kings added him to the squad during IPL 2018 auction. Currently, he leads the Preity Zinta-owned franchise.

"If RCB are going to look at a long-term contender as captain, they should be looking within their own borders. The name I've got is an ex-Bangalore player. It's KL Rahul. I just have a feeling he is going to return back to Bangalore in next year's auction," Steyn told ESPNCricinfo.

AB de Villiers has been a part of the RCB for around a decade but Steyn doesn't think his ex-South African teammate should get the captaincy. He said De Villiers is currently at the end of his career which doesn't make him the right contender for the role.

RCB would be looking for someone who can lead them at least in the next three IPL seasons. "I don't think AB de Villiers is the right way to go. I think he is a phenomenal player. But he is at the end of his career. I think he is a great leader," Steyn concluded.
