IPL 2021: "We complement each other well," CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad on opening with Faf du Plessis

Gaikwad-du Plessis helped CSK beat RCB by 6 wickets in Sharjah.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis | BCCI/IPLChennai Super Kings (CSK) got back to the top of the points table with 14 points to their name after a comfortable 6-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 35 of the ongoing IPL 2021.

After being asked to bat first, Virat Kohli and Co. were off to a great start but the three-time champions managed to pull things back as they restricted RCB to 156/6. When it came to batting, CSK batters Ruturaj Gaikwad (38) and Ambati Rayudu (32) ensured their team chased down the target.

Gaikwad who got the Chennai-based franchise to a good start told Star Sports about how he and his opening partner Faf du Plessis complement each other.

I was very happy when we won the last match, happy with this one as well. The opening partnership is always important, the new ball was coming onto the bat, we just had to play good cricketing shots, the right-hand batter told Star Sports.

IPL 2021: WATCH - MS Dhoni reveals he calls Dwayne Bravo his brother and they fight over bowling plans

We complement each other well (on his partnership with Faf du Plessis), we know when to attack and which bowler to go after, that's what is working well for us. Just try and be consistent, just contribute for the team, whatever you can do for the team, that's important,” he added.

Even though RCB lost the game, the big positive for the Bangalore-based franchise was their skipper Virat Kohli coming back to form as the ace right-hand batter scored a superb 53 (41) with 6 boundaries and a maximum and got his team off to a great start.

As far as CSK is concerned, Dwayne Bravo’s spell of 3-24 helped his side in keeping RCB below 160. Bravo bagged the Player of the Match as well for his sensational bowling when other bowlers were hit all over the place.

After RCB, the MS Dhoni and Co. will be taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday (September 26) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
