Delhi Capitals (DC) recently made headlines with their decision to let Rishabh Pant complete the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE as captain despite Shreyas Iyer coming into the fold having recovered from his shoulder injury.
Well, both Pant and Iyer have so far done a great job as captain for DC in the IPL with many see a future India captain in the current Delhi captain, but former Australian spinner and cricket expert Brad Hogg has a different take on the leadership talks.
The Aussie was mighty impressed with Shreyas, who made a strong comeback after recovering from a shoulder injury despite being under pressure and wasn’t picked in India’s main squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup to be played in the UAE and Oman from next month.
Iyer scored unbeaten 47 off 41 balls and added 67 runs with Pant to help DC beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 wickets on September 22 to put the team back on the top of the IPL 14 points table.
The commentator said the way Shreyas played in his comeback game against SRH despite not getting DC captaincy and his words in the press conference about the same won his heart and called the right-hander the future leader for India.
Hogg said on his YouTube channel, “He's come back from injury, he is under a lot of pressure, he did not get picked in the main T20 squad for India. The one thing that I saw in the press conference was that I'm thinking this guy could be a future leader for India.”
He signed off by saying, “It was just the way that he went about the processes with his own game. He does not get too far ahead of himself. He's got his routines and processes that he goes through and he does not go away from that.”
