Virat Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma on Monday (September 20) shared his views on the latter’s recent big announcements of stepping down as India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain.

Recently, Kohli took the cricket world by storm by making surprising announcements that he would step down as India’s T20I captain after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and RCB captain after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE.

The 32-year-old, who has led India to 27 wins in 45 T20Is as captain, cited workload as the major reason behind his decision. He also wants to give himself space and enjoy the game.

Reacting to the same, Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes the only reason behind the skipper’s decision is to allow himself to focus more on his game and manage workload.

Rajkumar Sharma told ANI on Monday: “Till the time he retires, he wants to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore and that shows his loyalty and he wants to remain part of the team and wants to concentrate on his batting and wants to perform better.”

He added, “There is no pressure on him (Kohli), pressure is only of workload, and he wants to improve on workload management so that he can concentrate better on Test cricket and ODIs and country needs him.”

The coach signed off by saying that quitting as RCB skipper after the IPL 2021 was on Kohli's mind for quite some time.
