Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a terrific start to their UAE-leg of IPL 2021 as they completely dominated Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) firstly by bowling them out for just 92 runs followed by a comfortable chase as KKR won the match by 9 wickets with 10 overs to spare.
RCB star batter AB de Villiers had smashed a fantastic 76 (34) in Chennai when the two teams faced each other during the first-leg in April but were dismissed for a golden duck on Monday (20 September) by a toe crushing yorker off Andre Russell.
During an interaction with teammate Varun Chakravarthy for IPL, the West Indies all-rounder talked about how he had planned the yorker as Russell knew the right-hand explosive batsman won’t be expecting it straight up.
“Yes, naturally I planned that yorker because before that I was bowling a lot of length balls. I know AB is a clever guy. I was just trying to outsmart him and get it right. It happened. The last time he took us apart in Chennai. This time, I planned to get him out. First-ball yorker and it happened. I backed myself, he wasn't (expecting the yorker),” Russell told Chakravarthy.
After talking about Russell’s price scalp of the wicket-keeper batsman, he asked Chakravarthy to celebrate his wickets with more enthusiasm as the tweaker looks composed even though he had castled the 'big show' Glenn Maxwell.
“I want 24 wickets in a match (laughs). It's just that I want to stay focused and not get distracted. If I celebrate too much, I will end up losing focus on what I need to do next. But later on, I do celebrate,” the 30-year-old replied.
