IPL 2021: RCB chairman Prathmesh Mishra and coach Mike Hesson react to Virat Kohli quitting captaincy

Virat Kohli became RCB captain in 2013.

Virat Kohli | Twitter Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli announced that he will step down from the captaincy of the franchise after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

The decision comes just days after Kohli announced his resignation from India’s T20I captaincy post-T20 World Cup 2021 to manage workload. 

RCB Chairman Prathmesh Mishra has said that he respects Kohli’s decision and added that he is one of the finest cricketers and a true asset for the franchise over the years. 

"Virat Kohli is one of the finest cricketers and has been a true asset to RCB. His impeccable work ethic and leadership skills have been phenomenal. We respect and support this decision and would like to thank Virat for his incredible contribution to the RCB leadership group. He has left an indelible mark on the franchise and will continue to be a senior member of the team," Mishra was quoted saying.

RCB head coach Mike Hesson also reacted to Kohli’s decision on Twitter.

“Have only been here a short time but I thank you @imVkohli for all you have done for @RCBTweets as a fully committed leader and team man, your energy and passion is infectious. I know the boys are fully committed to help send you out on a well deserved high skipper #PlayBold,” tweeted Hesson.
