Virat Kohli continues to shock his fans and cricketers with his sudden and unexpected decisions regarding the captaincy. Last week, Kohli announced that he will step down as India’s T20I captain after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
And on Sunday, September 19, ahead of the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), Kohli made another surprising announcement.
The Delhi-based cricketer announced that the ongoing IPL 14 will be his last season as RCB captain. However, RCB spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is confident that Kohli will finish his long captaincy stint on a high by winning the maiden title for the RCB this season in the UAE.
The RCB had a great outing in the first half of the IPL 14, as the franchise is placed third on the points table currently with 10 points after 7 matches and Chahal is confident of his team’s chances to clinch their IPL title in the UAE next month.
Chahal told Times of India, “I am so happy that the IPL has resumed. RCB really had a brilliant start to the season. We have a big chance of winning our maiden title. I am sure Virat bhaia will take RCB to their maiden title this time. I’m happy that we have 10 points so far. I am sure we will continue the winning streak and win the title.”
He added, “The BCCI did a commendable job to help every single cricketer reach their respective destination (after the tournament was called off midway due to the COVID-19 situation in India).”
On Kohli’s captaincy both as India and RCB captain, Chahal noted: “Virat bhaia is the same when he captains RCB and India. His hunger for wins and appetite for runs remains the same for both RCB and India. I am lucky that I get his guidance when I play in both colors (RCB and India).”

The spinner has also revealed that he still turns to MS Dhoni for advice. He further said, “I spoke with him (Dhoni) during RCB's match against CSK (in phase 1 of IPL 2021). He still calls me 'Tilli' (laughs). He said 'Oye Tilli' and then hugged me. We had a long chat. He is still the same - chirpy and jovial.”
He signed off by saying, “I asked him a couple of things about my bowling. He gave me some tips. He knows me in and out. I got a lot of tips from him for my bowling and mindset.”
