IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant to continue as Delhi Capitals' captain despite Shreyas Iyer’s return

Rishabh Pant had led the Capitals brilliantly in the first half of IPL 2021.

Rishabh Pant | BCCI/IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday (September 16) announced that swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will continue to lead the side in the remainder of the IPL 2021, starting September 19 in UAE.

The announcement comes as Shreyas Iyer, who led DC to the final last season, returns to the side after recovering from a shoulder injury, which kept him out of the India-leg of IPL 2021.

In his absence, Pant led the Capitals and did a brilliant job. The Delhi-based franchise was leading the points table with 6 wins from 8 games when the T20 league was postponed earlier this year due to COVID-19 cases in the bio-bubble of multiple franchises.

Taking to Twitter, DC confirmed the decision as they wrote: “JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals today announced that Rishabh Pant will continue as captain for the remainder of the IPL2021 season.”

Co-owner Parth Jindal too made a tweet which states: “Super excited for the remainder of season - very happy to have @ShreyasIyer15 back in the squad and fully fit - have no doubt that Rishabh and him together will continue the fantastic work done in the first half of the season - let’s bring home the title @DelhiCapitals @IPL.”

Delhi Capitals will resume their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on September 22.
