Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir said the people haven’t seen the best of Punjab Kings' (PBKS) captain KL Rahul ahead of the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE, saying the Indian batsman can achieve more than what people think about his batting.
Gambhir, the two-time IPL winner, further went on to claim that Rahul can score two-three centuries in a season and have a season as Virat Kohli had in IPL 2016, where the RCB skipper scored 973 runs.
Speaking on Star Sports’ show Game Plan, Gambhir said: “We haven't seen the best of KL Rahul. Yes, he has got runs, but we still haven't seen, what he can achieve in his batting. You could have a season like Virat Kohli had once. He's that kind of a player in white-ball cricket, where he can get 2-3 hundreds in a season and at a very good strike rate as well.”
Notably, the 29-year-old has already amassed 331 runs from 7 games, including four half-centuries in the first half of the IPL 14 in India. Rahul is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2021 only behind Delhi Capitals’ Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 380 runs in 8 games so far.
The PBKS captain was averaging 66 with a strike rate of 136 this season before the IPL 14 was suspended in May due to the COVID-19 outbreak inside the bio-bubble. The IPL 2021 will now resume on September 19 with a blockbuster clash between CSK and MI in Dubai, UAE.
At the moment, the PBKS is ranked 6th in the IPL 14 points table having won just three games from the 8 matches that they played in the first half of the tournament in India. The franchise will resume its IPL 2021 campaign against Rajasthan Royals on September 21 in Dubai.
