Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a tough time in the first half of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) winning only two of their first seven matches. The team is currently placed seventh on the points table.
KKR’s opener Shubman Gill opined that despite the poor performances in the first half, the team is still capable of qualifying for the play-offs.
"I think we are very much in contention to finish in top 4. Whichever team qualifies, you never know what will happen. Hopefully, we will win the remaining matches, make sure we qualify and then we'll see where we go from there,” Gill told KKR website after reaching the team hotel in Abu Dhabi.
The youngster had a below-average first half of the tournament. He scored only 132 runs in seven innings with a strike rate of 117.85 and average of 18.85.
"If we keep doing what we have done in the past years and just enjoy our game, then is possible that we will do well or qualify,” he said about the plans for the UAE leg.
IPL 2021, which was cut short due to COVID virus entering the bio-secure bubbles, will resume in UAE from 19 September. KKR will resume its campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 20 September in Abu Dhabi.
