India and Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman Shreyas Iyer has expressed his gratitude towards his fans and well-wishers for their love and support during his tough time, as he is all set to make comeback from a five-month injury hiatus in the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

Shreyas, who had to miss the first half of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury, was elated after joining Delhi Capitals’ (DC) training camp for the remainder of the IPL 14, resuming on September 19 in the UAE.

He is leaving no stone unturned during practice ahead of the tournament, saying he was eagerly waiting to get on the field and just want to continue to do well for his team.

Iyer said in DC’s official release,I am feeling on top of the world, to be honest. This was the thing I was eagerly waiting for. And without your love and support, I wouldn’t be standing here. It's never a bad feeling to be among the team. I came six days prior to the start of the practice sessions for the team, and I had two good games against the UAE team, so I just want to continue with the same momentum.”

On being away from the game, the Mumbai-born cricketer said: “The feeling was very difficult to sit out and see my teammates play. I was sitting in front of the TV, watching each and every game and feeling as if I am on the ground and trying to replicate the scenario at my place. But, it's in the past now, I have to forget about it and continue with the same flow, the team has maintained throughout.”

The 26-year-old has also expressed his excitement after receiving the DC jersey for the first time this season.

He said, “It was like Santa Clause had come to my room, and that's how I reacted, to be honest. It's always good to wear the Delhi Capitals jersey. I have been wearing it for six years now, every year they come up with new ideas, a new taste, and I am just trying to get used to it, and embracing it.”

Notably, DC is currently on the top of the IPL 2021 points table with 6 wins and 2 losses, and Iyer said they will try to acclimatize to the UAE conditions as quickly as possible when they will kickstart their IPL 14 campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on September 22.

Iyer signed off by saying, “We have discussed how we should progress through the practice sessions before the matches start. We have decided that we should be moving incrementally. We don't have to give it our all because the climate is different over here. We need to adapt to the weather conditions and acclimatize as quickly as possible, and that's what our mindset should be.”
