IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant likely to lead Delhi Capitals in UAE for remainder of IPL 14- Report

Under Pant's captaincy DC finished at the top of points table in the first-leg of IPL 2021.

Rishabh Pant | BCCI/IPLIndia wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant was appointed the new skipper of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) after regular captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament owing to an injury during limited-overs series against England.

Pant did a great job leading the Delhi-based franchise for the first time as DC ended the first phase of IPL 2021 by staying at the top of the points table with 6 wins in 8 matches.

Unfortunately, the tournament which was being played in India earlier this year had to be suspended indefinitely owing to the COVID-19 situation across the country as well as players and members of support staff getting diagnosed with the deadly virus.

Later BCCI announced that the IPL 2021 was scheduled to resume in UAE from September 19. With batsman Shreyas Iyer now fit to play, a lot of fans and experts were concerned about who will be leading Delhi Capitals.

A source in the know of this development has recently revealed that the 23-year-old Pant will be leading the DC in the UAE-leg of IPL 2021 despite having Iyer being fit and available.

While it is great news that Shreyas Iyer is fit again and ready to get back to action, it is understood that the DC management wants to give him more time to recover. As a result, Pant will continue as captain, but only for the second half of IPL 2021,” the source said.

The Delhi Capitals contingent barring those with international assignments has already traveled to UAE for the upcoming second-leg of the IPL 14 which is scheduled to begin from 19 September with the first match to be played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
