David Gower suggests this rule from The Hundred if adopted by IPL will 'make a difference'

Gower feels this rule was the best idea to come out of the 100-ball tournament.

The Hundred trophy | GettyEngland Cricket Board’s (ECB) brainchild ‘The Hundred’ which recently concluded with the final being played at Lord’s, received a lot of mixed reviews. While some felt it didn’t provide a fresh approach to the game, others felt it was a huge success in captivating fans in this newest format.

As there were some rules adapted in this tournament, such as a consecutive 10-ball over and penalty for slow over rates, former England skipper David Gower in his recent interaction revealed some rules which he feels IPL can implement from this 100-ball tournament.

If the IPL were to adopt that one idea from The Hundred, which is to penalize the fielding side if they're too slow, with field placing, that would make a difference to any game. So maybe that's one of the good ideas to come out of The Hundred,Gower told Cricket.com.

ENG v IND 2021: "He is the trump card in the team," Farokh Engineer wants Suryakumar Yadav to play Headingley Test

As ICC has now started docking points since the induction of the World Test Championship (WTC), in the ongoing Test series between England and India in the UK, both teams were docked 2 points each for failing to maintain the over rate.

Gower then talked about how ICC had tried imposing a fine on players for slow over-rates but nowadays a small fine doesn’t make sense as cricketers are well paid by their respective boards.

I don't get too upset by over rates. But it would be nice if people could stick to the over rates. There is no easy answer.

They've tried fining people, but nowadays the odd bit of money disappearing doesn't seem to make a jot of difference to players, who are already incredibly well paid. Maybe this points thing is valid. Maybe you’ve got to fine the teams in a way that it works,” the Englishman concluded.
