“He reminds us of a young Pollard”, Virender Sehwag showers rich praise on young PBKS batsman

The 2021 edition of Indian Premier League was postponed indefinitely on May 4.

Shahrukh Khan | BCCI/IPLThe 2021 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed indefinitely on May 4 as COVID-19 breached the bio-bubble and infected a number of players and support staff members.

The now-suspended IPL 14 saw only 29 games being played across four venues and the fans witnessed some spectacular performances in the first half of the tournament.

The likes of Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal and Jos Buttler smashed scintillating centuries in the cash-rich event while Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Rahul Chahar, among others impressed with the ball.

According to former India opener Virender Sehwag, however, Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) Shahrukh Khan was mighty impressive in the league and backed him to register a T20 century in future.

"He reminds us of a young Pollard, when he had just come into the IPL. Everyone was running after him, because he could just stand and hit sixes off bowlers. Shahrukh has the same quality. Although he has played those little innings and hasn't played a big knock. But the lower you bat in the line-up, there's only so much he can do," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Roped in for ₹5.5 crore during the IPL 2021 auction, Shahrukh scored 107 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 127.28 in the competition while his top score was 47.

"If he can be given a chance to bat higher, the day he clicks, he could even hit a century. He is the kind of player for whom it doesn't matter what happened the previous ball. Many batsmen thing 'Oh, I got beaten, this one turned'. Those who don't think about the previous ball, they have a higher success rate," Sehwag added.
