Mumbai Indians (MI) New Zealand pacer Trent Boult showed compassion towards the ongoing second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in India and also thanked his franchise for arranging the safe return of their overseas players home.
The healthcare system of India is being overburdened due to it recording almost 4 lakh cases per day for the past two weeks and more than 2.40 lakh people have lost their lives to this deadly virus.
It also brought the IPL 2021 tournament to an abrupt halt after only 29 matches were played in the tournament after 4 players, two coaches, and multiple support staffers were found COVID positive, and the bio-bubble was breached.
The BCCI halted the tournament and vowed to arrange the return of foreign players back home safely and coordinated the same with the respective franchises.
Mumbai Indians had a host of foreign players and Trent Boult thanked them for his safe return to New Zealand in a post on Instagram, in which he also said that his heart went out for the people of India and asked the country to remain strong.
“My heart goes out to the people of India, while I am sad to be leaving the @mumbaiindians family and see the IPL come to an end, none of that compares to the suffering many people are going through right now.
India is a place that has given me so much as a cricketer and person. I have always deeply appreciated the support that I've received from my Indian fans. This is a tragic time and I hope things can improve soon. I look forward to returning to this beautiful country when I can.
Thank you again to the @mumbaiindians for getting us all home and going above and beyond to ensure health and safety was the priority for all of the players and families. Please take care, look after one another and stay strong - Kia kaha,” Boult posted.
