IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians reveals travel plans; Indian players start journey to home safely

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) has on Thursday (May 6) confirmed that their Indian stars have been reached home safely while their head coach Mahela Jayawardena will complete his quarantine in the Maldives alongside the Australian contingent before returning to Sri Lanka.

The defending IPL champions have also confirmed that the franchise has made arrangements for their Australian contingent for the 14-day quarantine in the Maldives before they fly back to their home country following the postponement of the IPL 2021 due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Alongside the Australian players and support staff, Jayawardena will also be quarantined in the Maldives before taking the flights for their respective homes.

The MI wrote on Twitter, “Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene will also complete his quarantine in the Maldives before returning to Sri Lanka.”

The five-time IPL champions have on Thursday announced the same in a series of tweets as well as shared the travel plans of its players and support staff on Twitter.

MI wrote on Twitter, “Indian players have embarked on their journey back to their hometowns. All Covid-19 related travel and safety protocols have been diligently adhered.”

The franchise added, “Mumbai and Ahmedabad-based players and support staff members will return home via Ahmedabad on a charter flight. The cabin crew has completed seven days quarantine at the team hotel in Delhi.”

On the Australian continent, the defending champions tweeted: “Australian players and support staff members will fly to the Maldives on a special charter. MI has made arrangements for their 14-day quarantine stay in the Maldives before flying them back to Australia.”

Similarly, the franchise has also arranged charter flights for their players and support staff from New Zealand, South Africa, and the West Indies.

The MI wrote on Twitter: “Players and support staff from New Zealand, South Africa, and the Caribbean will fly to Auckland, Johannesburg, and Trinidad on their respective charter flights arranged by MI.”

The franchise signed off by saying that the MI team management will stay back in Delhi till all members of the MI contingent reach their respective destinations safely.
