IPL 2021: Michael Hussey and L Balaji flown to Chennai in an air-ambulance

Chennai Super Kings franchise was in Delhi when BCCI decided to suspend the IPL 14.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have flown out their coaches Michael Hussey and Lakshmipathy Balaji to Chennai after the duo tested positive for COVID-19 during now postponed IPL 2021, to Chennai. 

Chennai Super Kings were camped in Delhi before IPL 14  was suspended. The franchise organized a charter flight and helped their players to reach home. 

With players and support staff contracting coronavirus inside the bio-bubbles, the marquee tournament was unanimously postponed by the BCCI. Two of the CSK’s coaches Michael Hussey and Lakshmipati Balaji were among those who were infected by the deadly virus.

The Chennai-based franchises as a precautionary measure decided to shift the duo to Chennai by air ambulance. 

Talking about the same, a CSK official while explaining the decision to fly Hussey and Balaji to Chennai, said CSK authorities have good contacts in the city so they can manage any severe symptoms better. He added that both Balaji and Hussey are asymptomatic.

“See, we have better contacts in Chennai, so it was decided to fly both Hussey and Balaji into Chennai in an air ambulance to ensure that if the need arises, we have the facilities ready. Fortunately, they have no symptoms and both are doing fine.

"But yes, Hussey has to wait to get a negative report before he can leave India. We will arrange a charter when he is safe to fly,” A CSK official told ANI. 

CSK, who finished seventh last year, made a great comeback this season. With five wins in seven games, the MS Dhoni franchise was placed second on the points table and were all set to seal a spot in the playoffs.
