The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel has asserted that the BCCI will “find a way” to arrange for the return of foreign players after the IPL 2021 was suspended indefinitely due to the COVID-19 outbreak inside the bio-bubbles on Tuesday (May 4).
The 14th edition of the IPL 2021 was postponed on Tuesday by the BCCI after several COVID-19 positive cases outburst in the different franchises including Delhi Capitals.
The announcement came after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha tested positive for COVID-19 along with DC spinner Amit Mishra on Tuesday following the Coronavirus outbreak at Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings’ camp on Monday (May 3).
The IPL chairman Brijesh told PTI when asked how will the foreigners return home, “We need to send them home and we will find a way to do that.”
A lot of foreign players were involved in the lucrative T20 league and they will now face difficult challenges to return to their respective countries due to travel restrictions imposed in the wake of a deadly second wave of COVID-19 across India.
Australia, England, and New Zealand have already banned travelers from India including their own citizens and even Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced jail punishment if anybody tries to enter the country till May 15.
Many countries have also banned commercial flights from India that may cause more headaches to BCCI to arrange travel for the foreign players featured in the IPL 14.
