Simon Katich, who is the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2021, praised skipper Virat Kohli and said that the Indian skipper is the ‘most professional player' he has ever seen.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is breaking numerous records along the way and is among the leading batsmen in all three formats of the game and is also up there among the best Test captains India has ever produced and one of the best leaders in the One Day Internationals and T20Is as well.

The 32-year-old is currently leading RCB in the IPL 14. The Virat Kohli-led side has had their best start to the IPL campaign this season winning five out of their seven matches and is placed at the third spot on the points table.

Speaking in an interaction on BBC Sports, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Simon Katich said that both Virat Kohli and AB de Villers are their own coaches. He added that the Indian skipper always wants to learn and improve his game.

"They (Virat & AB de Villiers) are their own coaches because they know their game - and the game - inside out because of the volume of cricket they've played, Virat still wants to learn, though, and is always asking if we can see anything that might improve his game, but a player of his caliber, there is not a lot wrong with his game," Simon Katich told BBC sports.

Katich said that Virat Kohli is probably the most professional player he has ever seen and his professionalism reminds him of the era of Australian cricket he played in. He added that the RCB skipper leaves no stone unturned be it on the field or off the field.

"What I learned very quickly is that Virat is probably the most professional player I've ever seen, and that is saying something when you think about the era of Australian cricket I played in (2001-2010).

"Whether that is in the gym or with his nutrition or all the recovery and rehab work you do, he leaves no stone unturned. A lot of players do that but he takes it to the nth degree," he said.

Simon Katich further said that Virat Kohli’s competitive nature stood out for him. He called him a 'magnificient' captain and added that the coaching staff at RCB tries to share his workload the best they can.

"From a leadership perspective, what stood out was his (Kohli's) will to win and will to compete. As a leader, you can't ask much more than that. He was magnificent. We try to take as much as we can off his plate. He is such a busy man with leading India and all the commercial commitments he has for RCB throughout the tournament,” he concluded.
