Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who is currently playing with Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021, has decided to donate Rs 20 lakh and his IPL prize money received in various matches to an NGO for buying oxygen cylinders and concentrators amid second wave COVID-19 in India. 

India is undergoing a severe health crisis at the moment with the second wave of COVID-19 wreaking havoc across the country. 

There are over 30 lakh COVID-19 cases in India at the moment as the nation reported over 4 lakh fresh coronavirus cases on Friday (30th April) and the fatality rate has also increased a lot compared to last year.

With the second wave of coronavirus raging havoc across the country many cricketers including Pat Cummins, Brett Lee, Sheldon Jackson, Sachin Tendulkar, Shreevats Goswami, Nicholas Pooran and Jaydev Unadkat have come forward to help the country in these tough times.

The latest entry in the list is veteran Indian and DC opener. Taking to his official Twitter account the southpaw decided to donate his prize money received in various IPL 2021 matches, at the end of the event and INR 20 lakhs. 

‘We are in unprecedented times right now and it is the need of the hour that we do everything possible to help each other out. I will be making a donation of Rs 20 lakh plus money from all post-match individual performances awards that I receive from IPL 2021 towards Mission Oxygen to help fund requirement of Oxygen. 

“We are forever in your debt. I also urge everyone to observe health protocols — wear a mask, sanitize and maintain social distancing,”  Shikhar Dhawan Tweeted.
