Rajasthan Royals’ bowler Jaydev Unadkat has on Friday (April 30) become the latest cricketer to contribute towards India’s fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
Unadkat has pledged 10% of his Indian Premier League (IPL) salary to help towards “providing essential medical resources” to contribute to India’s fight against a deadly second wave of COVID-19 infections. The Indian pacer was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Rs 3 Crore at the IPL 2020 auction.
He announced the donation on Twitter by saying: “I am contributing 10% of my IPL salary towards providing essential medical resources for those in need. My family will make sure it reaches the right places. Jai Hind!.”
The 29-year-old also shared a video message where he can be seen saying that he knows the pain of losing people and watching close ones fight against the deadly Coronavirus.
He also urged people to get vaccinated as soon as possible and made an appeal to come forward and help everyone in the COVID-19 crisis across the country.
Unadkat said in the video: “Our country is going through a lot of distress and for that matter, I know how privileged we are in this position to play cricket. I also know how painful a personal loss can be and worrying it can be to witness your close ones fighting for their lives.”
He concluded, “I am not saying that it is right or wrong to play cricketer at this moment. But honestly, it is difficult to stay away from family in this situation. We should help each other in whatever way we can, I am contributing my part as well. Please get vaccinated whenever you can. Take care and stay safe everyone.”
Noteworthy, Pat Cummins, Brett Lee, Shikhar Dhawan, Nicholas Pooran, and Sachin Tendulkar have also provided financial assistance to help India in the battle against COVID-19.
