IPL 2021: Should back MS Dhoni’s assessment no matter what, opines Daniel Vettori

CSK is the top-ranked side in the IPL 14 with 5 wins in a row at the moment.

MS Dhoni | BCCI-IPLFormer New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori heaped praised on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni for his judgment of the Delhi pitch following their IPL 2021 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Chennai Super Kings crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi to regain the top spot in the IPL 14 points table.

At the toss, MS Dhoni said that Arun Jaitley Stadium's pitch looked tacky and dew will play a part.

“We were looking to bowl first. Looks a bit tacky and the boys who practiced yesterday said there was quite a bit of dew,” MS Dhoni said at the toss

Although Dhoni’s prediction of dew didn't come true, SRH batsmen found it difficult to play on the pitch in the first half of the game as David Warner-led side on the back of late hitting by Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav posted a total of 171 runs.

While talking to ESPNCricinfo, former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori said he has now learned to back Dhoni's assessment no matter what. He also commented on Sam Curran's bowling and the tentativeness in SRH's approach after losing one of the openers early.

IPL 2021: WATCH- "CSK is more aggressive and fearless this year"- Ruturaj Gaikwad tells Faf du Plessis

“Should back Dhoni’s assessment no matter what, I think that’s what we’ve learned from all of this. I think Sam Curran bowled well upfront I think he got the important wicket of Jonny Bairstow and because of the way SRH are set up when they lose one of their opening batters, they can at times look a bit tentative,” Daniel Vettori told ESPNCricfino.

Vettori further said that CSK used its resources pretty well.

"We saw how Warner just kept hitting fielders and combined with some good bowling from CSK They used their resources pretty well,” he said.

Chasing the target CSK on account of the brilliant opening partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis chased the target with 9 balls to spare.

The MS Dhoni-led side will next face Mumbai Indians (MI) on 1st May at Delhi.
