Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner while talking about the loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 23 of IPL 2021 said that he takes full responsibility for the way he batted.
Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their fifth loss of IPL 14 as Chennai Super Kings crushed them by 7 wickets at Delhi.
Opting to bat SRH on account of skipper David Warner’s 57, Manish Pandey’s 61 and fiery finish by Kane Williamson posted a decent total of 171 runs on the board.
Even though Warner notched up a fifty but the southpaw wasn’t able to time the ball perfectly during the knock. His sluggish 55-ball 57 saw him stay at the crease till the 18th over, but he couldn’t make the most of a good batting wicket.
While talking about the loss at the post-match presentation, SRH skipper David Warner took full responsibility for the loss and said that way he batted was very poor.
“I take full responsibility for the way I batted. I batted slow and hit the fielders. The way Manish came back and batted was exceptional. Kane and Kedhar got us to a respectable total, but at the end of the day I take full responsibility,” David Warner said during the post-match presentation.
Warner while explaining why he struggled to score runs against CSK said that it was frustrating for him.
“Probably 15 good shots to fielders; I hit four or five straight to the fielders in the Power Play and they are the ones that make or break the innings. There was a single man in the deep in the leg side and I hit it straight to him, it was frustrating,” he said.
Warner said that his side fought well but CSK openers batted well to take the game from them.
“We had 170 on the board but we couldn’t take powerplay wickets and it’s always tough to come back on a good surface like this. At the end of the day, I took too many balls. We fought well to the end, but the two (CSK) openers batted well,” he said.
David Warner while talking about Kane Williamson said that the Kiwi batsman will bat at No.4 for them. He added that his team would be hurt by this loss but they are a ‘bunch of fighters’ and will come back hard.
“He was going to bat 4 no matter what. At the end of the day, he bats at 4 and that’s his job. I think we have a day game here as well. 170 is par during the night, but we need to be positive. We’re a bunch of fighters. The guys will be hurt by this but we will be up and about,” he concluded.
With five losses out of their six matches, SRH is placed at the bottom of the table and will next face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 2nd May at Delhi.
