Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum hopes that his team will play a brand of cricket in IPL 2021 that will bring smiles to the face of people amid the second wave of COVID-19 in India.

The second wave of coronavirus has wreaked havoc across India and its impact has also been felt in the bio-bubble of IPL 14. Several international stars have opted out of the tournament and voiced their concerns over the same.

With players taking an exit from the bio-bubble and precipitous rise in coronavirus cases across India there have some talks to halt the marquee tournament.

Addressing the COVID-19 situation in India, KKR head coach Brendon McCullum expressed his concerns for the people struggling.

“I know that people are out there struggling with what is going on at the moment in terms of the pandemic and the situation not just here in India but also abroad,” Brendon McCullum said in a video posted on the KKR website.

McCullum further said that KKR will try their best to play a brand of cricket that will give people something to look forward to in these difficult times.

“We are going to do our best to try and play a brand of cricket and a style of cricket that gives those people back home something to look forward to, even if it is just for a three to four-hour period. We are in a privileged position, and we can give a little bit of hope even in these difficult times,” he said.

Talking about the same KKR CEO, Venky Mysore urged people to be safe and said that his team will try their best to bring smiles to the face of fans during the tough times.

“From the entire KKR family, all I want to say is, you know what you need to do. Please be safe. We will hope that during our games through the end of May, we will be in a position to at least entertain you a bit so that there can be a smile on your faces,” Venky Mysore said.

Mysore while talking about concern over the safety protocols of the bio-secure bubble said that safety features are unprecedented and everyone is being properly taken care of.

“The protocol and the safety features that have been built into the bio-secure bubble are unprecedented and I think it couldn’t have been any better. Everyone is being properly taken care of,” he said.

The Eoin Morgan-led side will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) on 29th April at Ahmedabad.
