Known for his ability to hit sixes, Lalit made his debut in DC’s second game against Rajasthan Royals. He scored 20 in his maiden IPL appearance and followed it up with scores of 12* and 22* against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians respectively.

Yadav also impressed one and all with his crafty off-spin against MI, claiming a wicket by conceding 17 runs in his four overs.

"It's going good. Match by match, there is improvement. As a player, I feel I am becoming confident in all departments -- batting, bowling, fielding," he said in an exclusive chat with Timesofindia.com. "From the team perspective, what's good is that I have been part of a winning team in two of the three matches I played in."

The backing from head coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Rishabh Pant has also bolstered Lalit Yadav’s "self-belief".

"It's a different confidence. I made my debut, played okay -- not bad and nothing great. They [Pant and Ponting] praised me, so I am very confident. Coach and captain's appreciation is helping my self-belief," he said.

Yadav boasts an outstanding strike rate of 142.79 in domestic T20s, which clearly is a testimony of his big-hitting abilities. In fact, he has smashed 6 sixes in an over twice in local cricket, which put him in the spotlight ahead of the IPL 2021 auction.

"That is one image in the domestic circuit which I would like to bring to the IPL - that I can dominate the game at will in any situation. That's what I am trying. Let's see how it goes," he remarked.

Lalit Yadav is enjoying his time with the Capitals as the management has given him the freedom to express himself.

"There is no such specific role. Mujhe bola ke tu ja aur apna cricket enjoy kar, zyada soch mat [I was told to just enjoy my game and not think too much). 'The more you think the more you will get confused. You play well when you play with a free mind. You have the skills. Stay confident and you will do well'," he said.
