India will open vaccination for all above the age of 18 from May 1 and the BCCI has left the decision of COVID-19 jab on the cricketers, who are taking part in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
In an exclusive chat with ANI, sources in the know of developments in the BCCI said it is for players to take a call on vaccination.
"The Indian players can get vaccinated from Saturday. It is a call that is left on players," the source said, before citing that overseas players featuring in the IPL 2021 are not eligible for vaccination and no exception can be made in this regard.
"Only the Indian players can get vaccinated here," the source added.
India is reporting over 3 lakh COVID-19 cases for the past few days and the health infrastructure is struggling to cope with the crisis.
On Monday (April 26), veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (Delhi Capitals) decided to take an indefinite break from the IPL 2021 to be with his family.
Moreover, three Australian players namely Andrew Tye (Rajasthan Royals), Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa (Royal Challengers Bangalore) have pulled out of the cash-rich tournament.
Despite the unpleasant development, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has insisted that the cash-rich tournament will go on.
“So far, it's going on as scheduled,” Ganguly told Sportstar.
The IPL final is scheduled to be held on May 30 in Ahmedabad.
