IPL 2021: Not sending Jonny Bairstow in super over will haunt SRH, opines Pragyan Ojha

SRH lost the tied game against DC on the basis of super over.

Kane Williamson was chosen to bat along with David Warner in the super over | BCCI/IPLDavid Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came really close to defeating Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals (DC) in match 20 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) as the latter won the tied match on the basis of super over.

Everyone was shocked to see English opener Jonny Bairstow didn't come out to open the innings in the super over despite his 38(18) with 3 boundaries and 4 maximums as skipper Warner came out with Kane Williamson who played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 66 off 51 deliveries and took the game to super over.

Former India off-spinner Pragyan Ojha also thought that the Hyderabad-based franchise missed the trick by not sending Bairstow with Warner.

Yes, definitely (Hyderabad missed a trick by not sending Jonny Bairstow in Super Over). With all due respect to Kane Williamson, he is someone who can anchor and build an innings,” Ojha said.

But in the Super Over you need someone who can hit those boundaries and sixes. Someone like Bairstow got 38 off 18 balls, so why not him with David Warner? That is something that will haunt them,” he added.

The 34-year-old then went on to praise the all-rounder Akshar Patel for his superb super over as he has just recovered from COVID-19 and was back out on the field after a long time.

What a Super Over! He's not been practicing, not been in the team for such a long time (due to Covid-19) and straightaway coming in and taking the pressure head-on, I think that was superb and it shows that he was prepared for it,” he said.

After losing to DC, David Warner and Co. will be taking on three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
