IPL 2021: RCB skipper Virat Kohli fined INR 12 lakh for slow over-rate vs CSK

RCB suffered their first loss of the IPL 2021 campaign by 69 runs.

Virat Kohli scored 8(7) against CSK | BCCI/IPLThe Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli was fined INR 12 lakhs for his team’s slow over-rate in match 19 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mr Kohli was fined ₹12 lakh,” it further added.

According to IPL guidelines, the captain of the team that fails to maintain the over-rate is fined INR 12 lakhs for the first time.

On the second instance during the season, the fine for the captain is doubled (INR 24 lakh) while every other member of the playing XI is fined 25 percent of the match fees or Rs 6 lakh, whichever is lesser.

If the offense is committed for the third time, the captain has to pay a fee of INR 30 lakh and serve a one-match ban, while the rest of the members of the playing XI are charged with a fine of Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of match fee, whichever is lesser.

It was not a great game for Virat Kohli and Co. as they suffered their first loss of their IPL 2021 campaign by 69 runs.

After CSK, the Bangalore-based franchise will be taking on Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (27 April) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
