IPL 2021: “Batting let us down”, says Eoin Morgan after KKR’s 6-wicket loss to RR

KKR posted a below-par 133/9 in their allotted 20 overs against RR.

Eoin Morgan got run out for 0 against RR | BCCI/IPLEoin Morgan was a disappointed captain as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a heavy 6-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday (April 24).

Asked to bat first, KKR posted a below-par 133/9 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a listless batting performance as Rahul Tripathi was the top scorer with 26-ball 36.

In reply, RR rode on skipper Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 42 off 41 balls to overhaul the target with seven deliveries to spare.

After the game, Morgan criticised the batting unit and conceded that his side lacked intent throughout the innings.

"The batting let us down. We lacked a lot of intent throughout the whole innings. We were behind the game right from the get-go. Didn't put the bowlers under enough pressure. RR adapted to the pitch much better. We were probably 40 short which is a lot in a T20 game," Morgan said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"The wicket today wasn't as good as it has been here at the Wankhede and that was a challenge in itself. Every time we tried taking an attacking option, we lost a wicket. Left us a lot to do at the back end, which we didn't obviously do. Clearer the mind, the easier it is (to play with intent). We want guys to play free-flowing cricket. It wasn't there today, unfortunately," he added.

KKR have lost their last four games and the Morgan-led side is currently occupying the last slot in the eight-team points table.

Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next match on Monday (April 26).
