IPL 2021: Eoin Morgan is not that good of a T20 captain, opines Virender Sehwag

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost their third consecutive match in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). Even though the team fought back, it was Chennai Super Kings (CSK) that came out on top in match 15 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

As KKR are not being able to get over the line, former India opener Virender Sehwag raised some questions on Eoin Morgan’s leadership.

IPL 2021: “It's a matter of time before something comes together”, Eoin Morgan not concerned about his low scores

I don't think Eoin Morgan is the best T20 captain in the world. Whoever bats well win the game for him. Whoever bowls well, wins the game for England. But in IPL - he does not have that team, and I also don't think he is that good a captain of T20 cricket,” he told Cricbuzz.

Sehwag then compared Morgan to MS Dhoni as he said, “If you compare MS Dhoni with Eoin Morgan, it would not be a correct comparison. Also, he does not have that good a team that he has for England. Because a captain is as good as his team.

When he builds a great team maybe next year, or if his players start performing extraordinarily. Even if two players start scoring runs, or two bowlers start picking wickets, then this will be a good team. And they will start winning matches. At this moment, I don't feel Eoin Morgan is that good a T20 captain,” Sehwag added.

IPL 2021: Tend to stay away from Andre Russell after he got out, says KKR skipper Eoin Morgan

The Kolkata-based franchise was reduced to 31/5 at one stage but thanks to the fantastic hitting by, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Pat Cummins, they got to 202 in their 20 overs and lost the match by 18 runs.

After this extremely close game against CSK, Eoin Morgan and Co. will now be taking on Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (22 April) at the same venue in Mumbai.
