Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Eoin Morgan has been fined INR 12 lakhs owing to a slow over-rate in match 15 of IPL 2021 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) which the former lost by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 21,” IPL said in a statement.

Since this was KKR’s first offense of the season, according to IPL’s Code of Conduct, the skipper was only fined for maintaining a slow over-rate.

As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Morgan was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the statement further added.

On the second instance during the season, the fine for the captain is doubled (INR 24 lakh) while every other member of the playing XI is fined 25 percent of the match fees or Rs 6 lakh, whichever is lesser.

If the offense is committed for the third time, the captain has to pay a fee of INR 30 lakh and serve a one-match ban, while the rest of the members of the playing XI are charged with a fine of Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of match fee, whichever is lesser.

After losing to CSK, the Kolkata-based franchise will take on Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (24 April) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
