IPL 2021: 'MS Dhoni can take some rest,' opines Brian Lara about CSK batting line-up

MS Dhoni came ahead of in-form Sam Curran against RR.

MS Dhoni | BCCI-IPLAfter Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) 45-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR), former West Indies skipper Brian Lara feels CSK skipper MS Dhoni can afford to take some rest as their batting line-up is quite deep.

Even though none of the CSK batters hit a half-century, the team posted a strong total of 188 runs for the Royals.

I don’t think there should be asking for too much effort from MS Dhoni with the bat. Of course, he got the gloves in his hands, he has got to take the catches and do the stumpings. But I find that batting order is so long, Dhoni can take some rest,” Lara told Star Sports.

The wicket-keeper batsman came ahead of in-form Sam Curran at No. 7 and ended up scoring 18 off 17 deliveries.

We want him in form, we know how destructive he can be but he has got so many good players. Look at Sam Curran, who is in great form. He comes in and hits from ball one straightaway,” Lara added.

The Chennai-based franchise which is currently at the No. 2 spot on the points table can grab their fourth title this year if MS Dhoni concentrates on bringing the best out of all his players.

I think they have got a very good team. A good leader who is inspirational. If he concentrates on that aspect of it, getting every single individual performing, they can go all the way,” the 51-year-old said.

After RR, the three-time champions will be taking the field against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday (21 April) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
