IPL 2021: WATCH – Ricky Ponting’s dressing room speech after DC’s narrow loss to RR

Ponting boosted the morale of his wards with a motivational pep talk.

DC lost to RR in the last game | BCCI/IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) suffered a narrow three-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 7th match of IPL 2021 on Thursday (April 15).

Chasing 148 to win, RR lost half their side with 42 runs on the board before David Miller produced a special knock of 43-ball 62 to rescue them.

In the death-overs, all-rounder Chris Morris stepped up to the occasion, slamming 36 not out off 18 balls (4 sixes) to take Rajasthan over the line with two balls to spare.

After the game, Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting boosted the morale of his wards with a motivational pep talk.

Taking to Twitter, DC shared a video in which Ponting can be seen praising the team for dragging the game until the last over.

"What we talk about around this group is never being beaten right and keeping ourselves in the contest and we did that magnificently tonight", said Ponting.

"In fact, up until about the 16th over mark, I thought we had them, and that says a lot about us as a group. No matter how badly we play, until they hit the winning run, we are never out of the game", he added.

Ponting also complimented Chris Woakes for his brilliant bowling spell, which saw him taking a couple of wickets by conceding 22 runs in his four overs.

"Brilliant once again it was really. Woakes, your first two overs, mate, were awesome. Two for eight off the first two, we needed you to do that and stay in the game", said Ponting.

"So, for most of the day, we did lots of things really, but the game got away. But I got to walk out with a lot of positives out of today, right? We didn't play very well. We got beaten with two balls to spare. So, there's so many good things to take out of it. All of our skills are in a great place", he further remarked.

Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings in their next game on Sunday (April 18).
