Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Chetan Sakariya while recalling his debut match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2021, thanked skipper Sanju Samson and Kumar Sangakkara for backing him.
Chetan Sakariya had an impressive start to his IPL career. The 22-year old debuted for RR against PBKS in their opening match of IPL 2021 and returned with the figures of 3-31 in a match where bowlers from both the sides were dispatched all around the park.
Talking about his debut match RR pacer, Chetan Sakariya said that when he got to know that he would playing match he mentally prepared himself for the opportunity.
"I got to know in the team meeting before the match that I will play in the next match. Since then I was trying to mentally prepare myself for the opportunity. When I was bowling the first ball, I felt the pressure but after that, I felt it is normal cricket,” Chetan Sakariya told RR in a interview.
Sakariya said that taking the wicket of KL Rahul, who was well set on 91 runs, was special for him as his team saved lot of runs by sending him back.
"The wicket of KL Rahul was special for me as we saved a lot of runs by sending him back to the pavilion," he said.
The pacer further lauded his skipper Sanju Samson and Director of cricket RR for backing him up to do his best for the match.
"Sanga sir told me bowl according to your understanding and back yourself. If it lands on the right area the whole credit will go to you and if didn't work we will help you. The same thing Sanju bhai did, he gave me full freedom and said I will give you the field of your choice," he concluded.
Rajasthan Royals will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) on 15th April at Mumbai.
