IPL 2021: Cricket fraternity lauds RCB bowlers for successfully defending 149 after SRH’s strong start

Shahbaz Ahmed took 3 wickets in his two overs for RCB.

RCB defeated SRH by 6 runs | BCCI/IPLSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced each other in the 6th match of IPL 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday (April 14).

Opting to bowl first, SRH restricted RCB to a modest 149/8 in 20 overs. Jason Holder (3-30) and Rashid Khan (2-18) did the bulk of the damage with the ball for SRH.

It was a disappointing batting performance from RCB. Glenn Maxwell was the top-scorer with 41-ball 59, which included 5 fours and 3 sixes.

In the chase, Sunrisers were cruising as the duo of David Warner and Manish Pandey added 83 runs for the second wicket after losing Wriddhiman Saha (1) cheaply. Kyle Jamieson broke the partnership by removing Warner on 54 and SRH’s innings faltered thereafter.

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed Jonny Bairstow (12) and Pandey (38) and Abdul Samad (0) in the 17th over to reduced SRH to 116/5.

Defending 34 runs in the last three overs, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj did the job for RCB. While Harshal conceded 7 in the 18th over and dismissed Vijay Shankar (3), Siraj gave away 11 runs and took the wicket of Holder (4) in the penultimate over.

SRH needed 16 runs in the final over but Harshal sealed the deal for RCB despite Rashid Khan’s little cameo (18 off 9 balls). He conceded 9 runs and took the wicket of Shahbaz Nadeem (0) to restrict SRH to 143/9 in 20 overs.

Cricket fraternity was impressed by RCB bowlers’ comeback in the latter half of SRH’s innings.
