IPL 2021: Scott Styris feels MI made a 'bad move' by buying Marco Jansen

Jansen took 2-27 on his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris feels that Mumbai Indians (MI) have made a ‘bad move’ by picking South African Marco Jansen. Even though Jansen picked up 2-27 on debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Styris believes the move may come back to bite the franchise in the future.

While talking on Star Sports about the pacer, Styris said, “I think this is a bad move for Mumbai Indians to pick up Marco Jansen right now, because now, as we are doing, we are talking about it, everybody is talking about it. And with the possibility of a major auction next year, then I think Mumbai may have to suddenly pay up big bucks because they are not going to keep him,” he added.

The 45-year-old thinks the Mumbai-based franchise should think a little bit long-term and keep Jansen ‘on the ice’ and then buy him for a cheaper price next year.

So, I would suggest, to think a little bit long-term, maybe put him on the ice this year and Mumbai Indians could have swept in next year having for a long time like Lasith Malinga. Because I think he has got that skill to be a starting front-line bowler in the IPL for 10 years,” Styris elaborated.

The New-Zealander then went on to talk about how he feels about the South African by saying, “All around, I thought he is incredibly impressive and the reason for that is not about the simple factor that he gets bounce because he is six foot eight, which is what you expect.

After losing a close game to RCB, the Rohit Sharma-led MI will take on two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 13 April at Chennai.
