IPL 2021: Cricket fraternity divided over Sanju Samson’s refusal to take single off penultimate ball against PBKS

Samson denied Chris Morris a single, needing 5 runs from 2 balls.

Sanju Samson refused to take a single | BCCI/IPLRajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson’s decision to refuse a single off penultimate delivery against Punjab Kings (PBKS) sparked a debate on social media.

During the fourth game of IPL 2021 on Monday (April 12), RR were chasing the staggering target of 222 in 20 overs and Samson was the lone warrior for his side.

Batting at No. 3, the right-hander took the Punjab attack to the cleaners despite not getting ample support from the other end.

Thanks to his ton, Royals needed 13 runs off the final over. While Samson hit the fourth delivery for a maximum, he denied Chris Morris a single on the fifth ball before getting out on the last ball for 63-ball 119, including 12 fours and 7 sixes.

While Sanju Samson garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity for his whirlwind knock, the RR captain’s refusal to take a single on the penultimate delivery divided opinions among the experts.

Check out the reactions:

Coming to the match, PBKS piled up a massive 221/6 in 20 overs after being invited to bat first. KL Rahul (91 off 50 balls), Deepak Hooda (64 off 28 balls) and Chris Gayle (40 off 28 balls) were the stars with the bat.

Arshdeep Singh, who delivered the final over, was the stand-out bowler for Punjab, claiming 3 wickets by conceding 35 runs in his four overs. Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami (2-33) also chipped in with a couple of scalps.
