Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting interacted with Shreyas Iyer, who is not part of the IPL this season because of a shoulder injury, ahead of their clash with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The regular Delhi captain Iyer had a virtual call and had a chat with the other DC members as well.
While being on the video call, Ponting said they are missing Iyer and he also asked to join them as 12th man for the match. Iyer underwent surgery on April 8 in Mumbai and will need at least 4 months to recover.
"Missing you, it doesn't feel the same. Come and join us, it's just 7 days (quarantine). It will go fast, trust me. Come on, we need a 12th man. We need someone to run the drinks for us," Ponting said in the video shared by Delhi Capitals.
Iyer, in the video call, said he's in pain and that's why he won't come to cheer them ahead of the clash against CSK, but added that he might be there for the upcoming matches.
DC ended up winning their first match against CSK by 7 wickets. They had chased down 189 runs with ease after the opening stand between Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer of 138 runs.
