IPL 2021: WATCH – Virat Kohli drops an easy catch; takes a blow under his right eye

The incident happened during the 19th over MI's innings.

Virat Kohli | BCCI/IPLThe 2021 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway on Friday (April 9) with Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener at Chepauk.

RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. During the first innings, Virat Kohli dropping a simple catch at mid-off caught everyone’s attention.

In the penultimate over of MI’s innings, Kyle Jamieson bowled a length ball and Krunal Pandya struck it straight to Kohli but the RCB skipper made a mess of an easy chance and also took a blow under his right eye.

Thankfully, Kohli seemed alright as he didn’t go off the field. He was later seen using an ice pack around the area where the ball struck him.

Coming to the match, the defending champions posted 159/9 in 20 overs on the back of Chris Lynn’s 35-ball 49. Suryakumar Yadav was another notable contributor with 23-ball 31.

For RCB, Harshal Patel was the stand-out bowler, claiming 5 wickets by conceding 27 runs in his four overs. Jamieson also chipped in with a scalp by giving away 27 runs in his four-over quota.
